#Figging, Gingering, Rhaphanidosis and Soring #BDSM

All of these terms, with the exception of Rhaphanidosis, are related to horses. Various, kinky fun can be had out of a few of them… with the right know-how 😉

Figging

Historically, it was well known Victorian prisoners and female slaves in ancient Greece were subjected to the practice of ‘Figging’ which is where a paired root of ginger was inserted into the anus to cause maximum distress to its bearer. The ginger oil takes approximately two to five minutes to reach maximum potency and the effect will last for around half an hour until the essential oil begins to deplete. After this time the ginger can be reskinned or a new piece inserted if the torment is set to continue.

In relation to horses it was a means of making them hold their tails up high and have a slightly more ‘spirited’ step. Any sub that has tried this will sympathise, I suspect.

It’s also a good way of making sure a submissive cannot clench her butt cheeks when a spanking/cropping is applied. The effect of the ginger is considerably worse when the anus tightens around the plug, hence a spanking would have to be taken with no muscle contractions – making sure the submissive has no way to soften the sting of each blow. Ooh!

Gingering

A similiar practice where an irritant such as ginger, onion, tobacco, pepper or chilli is applied to either a horse’s anus or vagina to make it appear younger and more lively. It was also used to make sick or weak animals a little more frisky, thus increasing their sale price. This process is now illegal in most countries, and ‘ginger swabbing’ is in place to make sure the rules are adhered to.

With relation to BDSM – spicy salves and pastes can be applied to the subject’s vagina or anus as punishment or foreplay – whichever floats your boat 😉

Rhaphanidosis

This is the same kind of thing, but using a radish as the irritant. Another punishment of ancient Greece for the unfaithful (weren’t those guys awful, huh?) If you think that’s bad – they also used a Scorpion Fish with poisonous spines, which they inserted into the anus of miscreants, knowing full well they’d never be able to pull thing out again (the spines would be reversed into the anus and would prevent removal) – thus ensuring a slow, painful and rather unpleasant demise, I suspect.

I assume a radish would have a more unpleasant burn than that of ginger. I haven’t tested the theory, though!

Soring

This is where chemicals or pressure ie. nails are used to make a horse pick up its feet quickly. Irritants such as kerosene, diesel, mustard oil or salicylic acid were placed upon various parts of the horses hooves to improve their gait. Unbelievably, some of these chemicals were so toxic as to be believed to cause cancer, and the trainers had to wear gloves to apply them. This particular brand of torture often lead to scarring and extreme pain. Unsurprisingly, it has been banned for several decades.

Want to create a similar form of torture for your sub? Try out these beasties for size 😉
